God of Resurrection

Last week I got to substitute teach for my sister's Sunday School class. And as last Sunday was Resurrection Sunday, we learned about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and why it is so significant for our faith as Christians. The reason I bring up all this, is because what I learned as we sifted  through the pages of our Bible, I needed in the middle of my day today. In the middle of my 'Friday'.

Jesus Christ, God in flesh was born into a dying and wicked world. And that is pretty awesome. (And I certainly do not take that lightly!)

But the fact that God in Flesh, died on a rugged cross.  Paired with the fact that three days later God in flesh, rose to life from the grave of death is FUNDAMENTAL for my belief in this God, in this Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:17 "If Christ is not risen, your faith is futile".

If Christmas was all that there was to this story, well, it would have been a nice story. It would have been a nice little story. But that is not the entirety of this story.

God in flesh was born into a dying and wicked world. And lived a perfect life in a sin filled world. And on a Friday much like today, the world condemned Him to death. In the cruelest of ways. Death on a Roman cross. He bore the sin of all humanity that Friday. And God in Flesh breathed His last breath and died.

Friends of the Christ came and laid his pierced bloodied dead and limp body in a borrowed grave. Roman guards sealed the door. And everyone (but the Roman guards) went home..  And Saturday came and went.  God in flesh, the Christ, was dead. Some said that would be the end of this fanciful group who followed Him. Disciples sat in sadness and disappointment, for all their hopes were dashed. And then came the day. The Sunday. The Sunday that the world would discover that the tomb was empty. Jesus Christ was in fact NOT dead, He was risen from the dead! Matthew 28:6 "He is not here; for He is risen as He said".

The fact that He is RISEN, makes my God a God of life and resurrection.

Why is this important? Romans 8:11 "if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you" The Spirit of the God of resurrection is in ME.  The person that believes in this God, can have the Spirit of this God indwelling in them!  Therefore, in the midst of every dead thing, every dying issue in our lives, my life, the God of Resurrection can breath His breath of Life and make that dying, dead thing whole! The Spirit of God that raised Christ Jesus from the dead, lives IN ME! And that is why I believe that God can raise dead to life. heal diseases. Cure cancer. Rescue broken marriages. Heal hurting relationships. Redeem lost lives. Save souls.

If death itself couldn't stop God. Do you seriously think your most impossible situation can stop Him from showing you His awesome power?

.....Seriously doubt it.
