Mathew 6: 32-34
"For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble"
I've used this verse in my prayers a million times over. Its probably one of the first verses I learned as a child. For the little wants and big needs, I've found myself repeating this verse back to God, emphasizing the "ALL these things shall be ADDED unto YOU" part. And yet, I keep hearing this Word being spoken back to me by God. I feel that his emphasis is different however. Its the "seek FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD and HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS" that rings the loudest.
Cause you see, according to His word, it's His guarantee that He'll provide all things for us. That's something that He promised to take care of. But its our obligation to not seek after, mope around, and obsess about "these things", whatever these things are (ie. admission into a program, scholarship, a spouse, a child ect..) Its our responsibility and obligation to seek Him first. Its our duty to seek Him and His righteousness -- to be in right standing with God. And when we do our part, and put our focus on what it should be, on Christ, all these things that we desire for, He'll take care of it. "Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4). According to the Psalmist, we need to delight in the Lord, first and foremost. DELIGHT in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
God, I know that according to Your Word, these things shall be added to me. That's Your promise. Today I just turn back my focus from pursuing these things. I put my focus back on You, I turn my attention and my life to pursuing You. In delighting in You and in Your Word. And I know, that You, my strength and my Redeemer, are mighty and more than able to provide all the needs and desires in my heart. So I commit it to You as I seek after You. Jesus, I love You. Amen
