First Semester: DONE

Praise the Lord! By the grace of God, I finished my first semester today! (technically yesterday.)

So I started reading Luke the other day. And the thing is, the Word of God is unlike any other book we've read or will read. It's living! It's true. Every word in here is absolute truth! But sometimes we (me) have the tendency to treat this Book as the other "stories" we read and go on with our day. But if we wait and linger upon His Word, God will speak.

Ok so I'm in Luke 1:31. The account the angel, Gabriel telling this teenager of what will happen in the proceeding months, telling Mary of the plan of God to use her as a vessel in the delieverance of the world. " You will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Highest". So as curious as any of us are, this teenager asked the angel..how? You and I go through the toughest of times, the darkest of hours, with that same question -- "God, how?" We find ourselves looking half way on to a journey that God told us to go on, but finding the road a little darker, little muddier, fiercer than when we first started down the path. And we ask-- Lord, I thought....but now, how will we get from here to there? And here is the divine, God-breathed answer -- Luke 1:35 "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you.." You see, if God sent us here, it is His responsiblity to lead us through the mess, the crisis we face. He will strengthen the situation you face today. He will overshadow you. Find comfort in His shelter. Under His mighty wings. He will overshadow us, give us strength to finish that good work that He began in us. "He who called you is FAITHFUL and will do it! "

That's been my strength this semester, as I'm learning to lean not on my own understanding (that is so limited!) and trust more and more on Him. And I made it thus far, ONLY by the grace and the mercies of God. By the power of God working in the my life! Luke 1:37 " For with God, nothing shall be impossible". God will work the impossible in your life as well. I believe it!

Lessons on Discipleship from an Unlikely Source

Can we ‘walk with Jesus’ and still go to hell? Yes!  That's harsh so let me explain: Judas Iscariot was a disciple of Jesus Christ. As a disciple, this man walked miles alongside Jesus, each and every day. He spent hours with Jesus, every day for three years.  He sat at the table and ate meals with Jesus.  He listened to Bible teachings, directly from the mouth of Jesus Christ.  Judas is a testament to the fact that we can ‘walk with Jesus’ and still be unsaved.  We can be ‘Christian’ by label, partake of Christian activities, hold impressive positions and titles (Judas was the treasurer of Jesus’s earthly ministry), hear solid Bible teaching and still be unchanged on the inside and be heading towards an eternity in hell, separated from God.  The tragic life of Judas has insights to offer us in correct discipleship with Jesus Christ. Here are three lessons we can put into practice in our walk with Christ: ·       ...

Fellowship Week One: Black and Blue

I’m typing this, in my bed with sheets pulled over my face. It’s been a day. And I still have tasks looming over me that I still have to do but it has been a day, a long day. After four years of  residency, I had finally felt comfortable with the management my adult and pediatric patients in the clinic and on the floor. And today to be back at square one, with a knowledge base that is minimal, that’s hard. I am in the ICU with infants and children with complex cardiac diseases often needing urgent or emergent intervention to save their lives. And to not know.  If I’m being honest, it’s the toughest on my ego. Its bruised today, blue and black from all the hits of inadequacy and feelings of inferiority.  But it's humbling to be here again, face to face with what I lack.
